It’s pretty awesome when someone you admired growing up also admires your work! I was freaking excited yesterday when I read a post on my YouTube channel for the video “You Gotta Believe”  from user MulitFreebutterfly saying that she bought “You Gotta Believe” after hearing  it in a video put together by actress and comedienne Kim Coles.

Being the curious kitty I am, I wanted to see what was going on so I searched for the video on YouTube and found this beautiful entry by Kim regarding her journey to resorting her natural hair. Watch the video below:

I was SO excited to hear my song used by her and for such a beautiful video chronicling her natural hair journey. It turns out the video has also been featured in Essence Magazine online. I tweeted Kim and thanked her for using my song and she tweeted me back today saying this:

Making It As an Indie Musician

When singer-songwriter Natalie Brown lost a record deal in 2000, she started her own label with a partner, and they released the record together. That first album, Let the Candle Burn, kicked off on internet sites such as Amazon and iTunes — and Brown has never looked back.
